UMass Memorial partnering with local university for pediatric internships
New England Council Member, UMass Memorial Health, is partnering with The College of the Holy Cross to offer invaluable hands-on medical experience to students at its children’s medical center in Worcester, MA.
The inaugural students of the program will learn from nurse practitioners and doctors alike throughout their 8 weeks of internship. They will be exposed to and assist with the staff’s responsibilities, including working in medical laboratories, performing patient rounds, and aiding in a study on the disease complications of certain diabetic children. UMass Memorial understands its unique position as a development opportunity for young minds.
“We are the only children’s medical center in the region and can offer undergraduate students exposure to what it’s like to work in a clinical setting, from research to patient care,” said Lawrence Rhein, M.D., chair of the Department of Pediatrics, who oversees the program.
The New England Council commends UMass Memorial Health for its efforts in assisting the next generation of medical professionals.
