UMass Dartmouth receives $150K grant to create transformation justice center
New England Council member, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and its partners Massasoit Community College and UMass Law were awarded $150,000 by the Massachusetts Board of Education to establish a Transformative Justice Practitioner’s Certificate as well as a Transformative Justice Center at UMass Dartmouth.
These funds, granted by the Board’s Massachusetts Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF), are to aid in the creation of a certificate program that will “be instrumental to the region’s health and growth by giving students a background in the histories and theories of Transformative Justice and instruction in the applied practices of Transformative Justice,” according to a press release from the University.
When speaking about the Transformative Justice Practitioner Program, Eric Mitnick, UMass Law dean stated that the program “provides a valuable opportunity for our law students to make a very real impact in the social well-being of their communities.”
The New England Council congratulates the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on its new funding and looks forward to its creation of the Transformative Justice Program and Center.
