Two professors at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology win Nobel Prize
Massachusetts Institute of Technology professors Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson, both members of the New England Council, have been awarded the Nobel Prize for their groundbreaking work in economics.
Their findings focused on suggesting how institutions and political systems, often shaped by colonization, shape which countries become prosperous. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences gave the award.
“I am delighted, it’s just a real shock and amazing news,” said Acemoglu. Their studies have shown the importance of giving a democratic voice for the sake of a country’s economic survival, according to the Nobel Committee.
