Santander hires Goldman Sachs veteran to lead retail banking
New England Council member, Santander Bank, has hired Swati Bhatia to join as head of retail banking and transformation, responsible for the bank’s U.S. consumer and business banking and all the related digital transformation initiatives.
Bhatia, who started March 27, will report to Santander U.S. CEO Tim Wennes and global head of retail and commercial banking and group transformation Daniel Barriuso. Swati Bhatia will lead Santander’s retail business as the bank seeks to “become a national, digital bank with branches,” according to Wennes. She spent three years at Goldman Sachs, most recently as an advisory director, preceded by nine years in fintech at Stripe and PayPal and a leadership role at Capitol One.
“I am excited to be joining the retail bank business at this pivotal moment of transformation and growth,” Bhatia said in a statement. Santander’s globally connected technology platform and depth of digital expertise provide a competitive advantage and position the business for profitable growth in the U.S. market.”
The New England Council would like to congratulate Swati Bhatia and commend Santander for its digital transformation initiatives.
