Plymouth State University unveils new robotics lab
New England Council member Plymouth State University (PSU) has unveiled its new robotics lab, which was made possible by a $1 million grant received in 2022.
“We are now capable of handling about three times as many students as we currently have. I expect the program itself to grow threefold now that we’re up and running,” said Brett Kulakovich, an adjunct professor at PSU who will oversee the new lab.
The new 4,000-square-foot facility offers spaces for classes, a production room, and a collection of advanced robots. It will also house the Mathematics and Computer Science departments. Additionally, the building will include maker spaces and the art department to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations.
Since 2021, PSU has been the only institution in New England offering a bachelor’s degree in robotics. Alongside the new lab, PSU is introducing the “One Robot” program for the robotics department. This initiative will allow students to take home their own robot, addressing issues of supply and space limitations.
The New England Council commends Plymouth State University for its dedication to expanding the field of robotics.
