New England Aquarium announces BalanceBlue Lab
Last week, New England Council member, the New England Aquarium, announced the development of the BalanceBlue Lab, which aims to take that foundation of knowledge and support innovation in areas like fishing, farming, offshore wind and coastal resiliency.
At the end of March, the aquarium announced that Emiley Zalesky Lockhart would serve as the inaugural head of the BalanceBlue Lab, making her the associate vice president of ocean sustainability, technology and innovation. Prior to joining the aquarium, Lockhart was deputy general counsel and secretary at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and a general counsel and policy director in the Massachusetts State Senate. Her main goal for the innovation from this new lab is to support innovation in startups, but also corporate and industry technical advising.
“I think the idea is leveraging that science and being technical experts and helping companies, whether startups or large organizations, figure out how to create solutions in a more sustainable and responsible manner,” said Zalesky.
The New England Council commends the New England Aquarium for its commitment to enhancing marine and environmental knowledge.
