New CVS system protects the vulnerable from heat
New England Council member, CVS Health recently created a new system that alerts high-risk people when high heat is forecast.
The system focuses on heat waves and other cases of extreme heat. CVS aims to begin alerting people with asthma, cardiac problems, and reduced lung function about air pollution in the fall. Although only Aetna customers can access the system at the moment, CVS is planning to expand this service to CVS Pharmacies and MinuteClinics.
“Extreme heat kills more Americans each year than all other weather events combined,” said Dr. Dan Knecht, vice president and chief clinical innovation officer for CVS Caremark.
The New England Council commends CVS Health for this innovative new system.
