Mount Wachusett Community College Receives $1.1M for Adult Education and Training Programs

NEC member Mount Wachusett Community College has received a $1.1 million government-funded grant to aid the college in their support for adult education and job training programs. Specifically, the grant is intended to provide access to basic education services for undereducated adults, as well as those with limited English-language knowledge.
In addition to providing basic education services, the grant will support Mount Wachusett’s HiSET/GED preparations with a Certified Nursing Assistant training program and an Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education program. The grant will also aid the college’s Adult Education Training division to provide basic adult education to 115 students, and English as a Second Language courses to 154 students. The Adult and Community Learning Services unit of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education provided this grant to the community college.
Speaking proudly of the Adult Education team in charge of implementing the various programs the grant supports, Mount Wachusett Community College President James Vander Hooven said, “Their work truly reflects the MWCC mission to be a lifelong learning community dedicated to excellence in education and responsive to the changing needs of the communities we serve.”
The New England Council congratulates Mount Wachusett Community College on receiving this grant and for their work to increase access to higher education.
