Monadnock Paper Mills becomes first paper mill to receive Mastercard Eco-Certification

New England Council member, Monadnock Paper Mills, Inc., recently announced that it has become the first paper mill to receive Mastercard’s prestigious Card Eco-certification (CEC). Monadnock Paper Mills is the oldest continuously operating paper mill in the United States and has become an industry leader in sustainability and sustainable paper solutions. This milestone reflects the company’s ongoing sustainability, innovation, and environmental transparency efforts.
Mastercard’s Sustainable Card Program has helped transition more than 168 million plastic cards to be made with recycled and bio-based materials. The company’s CEC certification process was initially developed for plastic cards, making Monadnock’s achievement an industry first as a paper-based certified card.
“Achieving Mastercard’s Card Eco-Certification reinforces our mission to provide high-performance, environmentally responsible fiber-based paper solutions… It’s a meaningful step toward greater environmental transparency in the card industry and aligns with our broader Un-Plastic Initiative—helping brands transition to more sustainable materials without compromising quality,” said Lisa Taylor, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Monadnock Paper Mills.
The New England Council commends Monadnock Paper Mills for this achievement and for its continuous commitment to sustainability in the paper industry.
