Google begins to roll out ‘Bard’, an AI chatbot

Google, a New England Council member, is moving toward the next stage of implementing artificial intelligence into the search engine by letting more people interact with its new feature. Although the number of people that will be given access is still undecided, Google is opening a waitlist for users who wish to use the AI tool.
For the initial introduction, Google plans to use a lightweight model to better cater to users and allow them to provide feedback. The goal of AI implementation is to better assess more complex questions and search prompts, which will lead to better understanding and different perspectives to see the bigger picture. With hopes to further propel ‘Bard’ and other AI systems, Google has begun to onboard individual developers and partnered with Cohere, C3.ai, and Anthropic. Google also emphasizes the new responsibilities that present themselves with the dawn of AI and engage in education and resources to ensure that AI stays safe and effective.
“Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models. It draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses. Bard can be an outlet for creativity, and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills,” said Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
The New England Council congratulates Google for this innovative effort.
