First “Investing in Infrastructure” Event Focuses on Transportation

On April 27, 2021, The New England Council hosted the first event in its “Investing in Infrastructure” series.  “Investing in Infrastructure: Transportation” featured a panel discussion with experts representing the region’s transportation sector who discussed key challenges facing the region and how federal investment would benefit the New England economy broadly.

Steve Silveira, Senior Vice President at ML Strategies and the Chair of the NEC Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, served as moderator.  The panel included:

  • Ted Kitchens, Director of Aviation, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport
  • John Pourbaix, Executive Director, Construction Industries of Massachusetts
  • David Scorey, CEO, Keolis Commuter Services
  • Lisa Wieland, CEO, Massport
  • Ellen White, Associate Vice President, HNTB

In a wide-ranging roundtable discussion, the panelists shared their top areas of concern and priorities for federal investment.  They also discussed how investment could support resiliency and climate goals, and ensure equitable access to public transportation resources.  Finally, the panelist shared their thoughts on how federal infrastructure investment could spur job creation, and steps that need to be taken to ensure that the region has the skilled workforce to fill those jobs.
