Over the past year, Massachusetts’ Worcester County has seen an increase in opioid-related deaths. In 2020, there were 280 deaths, which was triple the number record in 2010. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, the opioid-related death rate in Massachusetts is double the national average.

Given the severity of the opioid crisis, NEC member Fallon Health has partnered with Eleanor Health to launch a new program to expand access to substance abuse treatment. Fallon Health currently serves as the primary health insurance company for more than 173,000 members, and this partnership specifically aims to support Massachusetts Medicaid members. This program will give patients access Eleanor Health’s mental health and addiction services.

The New England Council commends Fallon Health for its work to alleviate the effects of the opioid crisis in central Massachusetts. Read more at the Worcester Business Journal.
