Council Hosts “New England Innovates: Combatting Alzheimer’s Disease”
On October 25, 2022, The New England Council hosted “New England Innovates: Combatting Alzheimer’s Disease,” and in-person program in Boston, MA. U.S. Senator Ed Markey, co-chair of the Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer’s Disease, delivered keynote remarks, highlighting some of the efforts on Capitol Hill to address the many challenges associated with Alzheimer’s Disease and to support continued healthcare innovation in New England and beyond.
Following Sen. Markey’s remarks, a panel of New England Council members discussed the economic impact of the disease and some of the recent developments in developing new treatments. They also explored the many challenges and opportunities related to innovation in the healthcare and life sciences sector in New England. The panelists were:
- Gregory Carter, Ph.D., Professor and the Bernard and Lusia Milch Endowed Chair, Jackson Laboratory
- Laura Cohen, Associate Vice President, Alzheimer’s Environment Shaping at Eli Lilly and Company
- Diane Lipscombe, Ph.D, Director of the Robert J. and Nancy D. Carney Institute for Brain Science, and Director of the Center for Alzheimer’s Disease Research at Brown University
- Maha Radhakrishnan, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Biogen
- Jim Wessler, President and CEO at Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter
