Connecticut Eversource crews return home after helping to restore power in parts of Virginia affected by Hurricane Helene
Eversource, a New England Council member, had about 40 crews from Connecticut working to restore power in southwestern Virginia for over one week following the catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Helene.
The Connecticut-based crews are returning home after helping Appalachian Power restore electricity to the region. When they first arrived, over 100,000 people were without power. Now, less than 1,000 power outages remain.
Cayle Sargent, an electric operations manager for the Torrington district of Eversource said the Appalachian Mountains were difficult to work in due to the steep terrain and damage to roads and bridges. “Not only the wind, but also the increased force of that rushing water and flooding coming down those mountains. So that caused a lot of damage that we’re not used to seeing. A lot of washed out roads, washed out bridges, certainly utility infrastructure, homes,” said Sargent.
The New England Council commends Eversource’s crews for their hard work in helping restore power amongst communities in Virginia.
