Congress approves $8 million in funding for Jackson Lab
Last week, Congress approved $8 million in funding for New England Council member, the Jackson Laboratory. The funding comes as part of Congress’ FY24 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Bill.
The Jackson Lab funding will go towards constructing a modern, two-floor facility to research rare diseases and develop new therapies to treat them. Though the Orphan Drug Act of 1983 defines a rare disease as one that affects fewer than 200,000 people in the U.S., all rare diseases combined affect 1 in 10 Americans.
“The establishment of the Jackson Laboratory’s Rare Disease Translational Center will help provide these patients with an efficient path from diagnosis to therapy and enable them to lead fuller, healthier lives than was previously possible,” said Lon Cardon, the lab’s president and CEO.
The New England Council would like to congratulate Jackson Lab for receiving this impactful funding.
