Citizens launches Black History Month student programs, scholarships
This month, New England Council member Citizens Bank launched The Black History Month Challenge, a student program run in collaboration with educational technology company EVERFI. The program is making its return for a second year after being created in 2021 to address issues of racial injustice and social inequity in the United States. The program is for students ages 13 – 18 and spans the entire month of February.
The month-long program includes four digital African American history classes through EVERFI, an essay contest, and the chance for 11 students who reside in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island among other areas to win a $2,500 scholarship and a brand-new Apple MacBook Pro. According to Citizens Bank, this program aids in the company’s commitment to social equity, stating steps like these enable them to “do even more to address critical economic needs and build stronger communities.” On the company website, Citizens Bank states that it intends for the program to “celebrate the groundbreaking and unsung heroes that have contributed to Black History in a meaningful way.”
The New England Council commends Citizen Bank’s Launch of this program and its commitment to social equity both during Black History Month and all year round.
