Brigham & Women’s doctors with ties to Ukraine create video to help Ukrainians respond to traumatic injuries
Two Doctors at New England Council Member, Mass General Brigham’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital recorded and uploaded a video last week that teaches Ukrainians how to respond to traumatic injuries. This action is in response to the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
The video includes Ukrainian-language narration by Dr. Nelya Melnitchouk, who grew up in Ukraine, and shows Dr. Eric Goralnick, a doctor of Ukrainian descent, using a mannequin to “demonstrate how to apply pressure on a wound, pack material into the opening, and apply a tourniquet to stanch the bleeding.” These efforts are in collaboration with the Stop the Bleed initiative, which teaches people who have little or no medical training to prevent traumatic blood loss.
“The idea is to get this out to as many people as possible, to empower them and help them save lives,” said Dr. Goralnick. Goralnick also expressed that he and his colleagues are working to increase educational materials and medical supplies available to Ukrainian people as the situation with Russia persists.
The New England Council commends the doctors at Mass General Brigham for using their training to teach Ukrainians how to respond to injuries and prevent blood loss.
