Bridgewater State University launches first-of-its-kind cybersecurity program for Massachusetts
New England Council member, Bridgewater State University has announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind bachelor’s degree program in cybersecurity, further cementing its status and leadership in the cybersecurity world.
With the growing threats facing government agencies and businesses, demand for cybersecurity workers has become increasingly essential—Bridgewater State will combine top cyber experts along with state-of-the-art facilities to support this program.
One of the key facilities is the Security Operations Center (SOC), which operates in collaboration with CyberTrust Massachusetts—a consortium of statewide cyber experts dedicated to revolutionizing cyber education. This partnership enables the SOC to offer vital technical support to local businesses and municipalities, which often lack the necessary funding to defend against cyber-attacks effectively. Additionally, the Cyber Range, a state-of-the-art cybersecurity training space is designed to provide practical, hands-on training through simulated cyber-attacks, serving as a valuable resource for both local municipalities and businesses seeking to enhance their cybersecurity capabilities. The development of these two facilities became a reality thanks to Massachusetts U.S. Senators Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren, who successfully secured a $2 million federal grant for their creation.
One of the goals of the program is to meet the need to fill the expected 20,000 state and 750,000 national unfilled cybersecurity jobs as global cybercrime costs are expected to grow by 15 percent per year.
The New England Council commends Bridgewater State University for the launch of this incredible program.
