Needham business leader elected to New England Council board

The New England Council, a nonpartisan alliance of businesses, academic and health institutions and public and private organizations, has elected six leaders from the New England business community to serve on its board of directors.

The newly elected board of director members include Christienne Bik of Fallon Health; John D. Keenan, Juris Doctor of Salem State University; Courtney B. Larkin, of Travelers; Kevin M. McGovern, of Deloitte; Robert F. Rivers, of Eastern Bank; and Graham Shalgian, of Rasky Partners.

Robert F. Rivers, of Needham, was named the chairman and CEO of Eastern Bank in January 2017. Rivers joined Eastern Bank in 2006 as its vice chairman and chief banking officer, becoming president in 2007, chief operating officer in 2012 and an eastern bank director in 2015. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership positions at Commercial Federal Corporation and M&T Bank Corporation. He serves as vice chair of the board at Major Gifts and previously served as trustee of South Shore Hospital Charitable Foundation. Rivers is graduate of Stonehill College in North Easton. He earned a master’s in business administration from the University of Rochester.
