WEX, Inc. Celebrates Opening of New Headquarters in Portland

New England Council member WEX, Inc. has opened a new 102,000 square foot headquarters on Portland’s waterfront. The new headquarters will accommodate the corporate office as well as act as an innovation hub for the global fleet, corporate payments, and technology teams.

The company will be moving approximately 400 new jobs to Portland from South Portland, where it will continue to employee more than 1,000 workers. WEX will initially lease 80,000 square feet of the office, leaving the company with plenty of room to grow. WEX President and CEO Melissa Smith, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), and Governor Janet Mills (D-ME) all spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was fittingly held on International Women’s Day.

Smith said, “WEX has seen tremendous growth and we continue to embrace new opportunities. . . Part of WEX’s unique culture comes from our roots in Maine, and we are looking forward to celebrating our new space with the community.”

The Council congratulates WEX on the completion of its new headquarters and for its effort to bring more quality jobs to Maine.
