University of Massachusetts Gains Tech Company’s Headquarters on Campus

Council member the University of Massachusetts (UMass) is set to gain a new presence—in the form of a sports technology company—on its Mount Ida campus in Newton.

CoachUp, a service founded in 2012 that connects athletes with coaches, relocated its headquarters to the college’s Newton campus in January 2020. The company was co-founded by the co-CEO of Draft, the fantasy sports betting company, and the CEO of IgnitePost, a handwritten direct mail service. CoachUp’s new location is in the Newton-Needham Innovation District, an area partnership created to attract and retain innovative and growing companies in priority industries, especially in technology.

“UMass Amherst is dedicated to creating a vibrant, collaborative community for students and innovative companies, and we now have access to an incredible talent pool for CoachUp internships and employment,” John Kelley, CEO of CoachUp, said in a statement. “UMass has been a leader in sports management and computer science programs, and we hope to tap into those resources to help drive growth and innovation in the years ahead.”

The Council congratulates UMass on this important partnership for the university and surrounding community. Read more in the Boston Business Journal.
