The contribution will be divided up equally among the three programs over the next five years. All three programs advance health priorities in communities of color. The funds will support work on health disparities and flaws in the health care system stemming from systemic racism. This new contribution builds upon previous donations aimed at supporting racial justice initiatives throughout New England. As of 2020, the Tufts Health Plan has allocated $6.5 million for community investment through its foundation
“The COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement have surfaced rooted systemic inequalities and health disparities that we can no longer ignore,” said Juan Lopera, Tufts Health Plan’s business diversity officer. “At Tufts Health Plan, we have a significant role to play in addressing health disparities, supplier diversity and inclusion, workplace equity and community engagement.”
The New England Council applauds the Tufts Health Plan Foundation for this investment in health and racial equity in New England. Read more from the foundation’s press release.
