The Castle Group Collaborates with Babson College for Free Communications Consulting Event

New England Council members the Castle Group and Babson College recently collaborated with Mass Nonprofit Network (MNN) to host the first-ever free communications consulting event for nonprofits called Consult Café. On March 6, 2019, 30 small nonprofits (under $5m annual budget) came together for a half-day forum and roundtable discussion.

Given their small teams and tight budgets, most nonprofits are focused on their mission-driven work rather than their communications. Given those constraints, the Consult Café event generated significant interest, with more than 90 nonprofits applying for 30 spots, with a variety of missions, including healthcare, family services, LGBTQ support, animal rescue, diversity and more.  At the event, the attendees had access to practical information on public relations, social media, community building, crisis communications and marketing to bring back to their organizations and execute.

Jane C. Edmonds, Babson’s Vice President for Programming and Community Outreach, commented, “The Consult Café demonstrated the power of collaboration, not only between the three organizers, but also among the nonprofit leaders that participated. . . You could feel the synergy in the room as people shared their own best practices with one another, made new connections with other nonprofit leaders that will carry forward, and walked away with concrete ideas that they could put into practice right away.”

The Council congratulates the Castle Group, Babson College, and the Mass Nonprofit Network, on a successful event and thanks them for their willingness to share their expertise with some of our region’s nonprofit organizations.
