The Boston Beer Company Acquires Dogfish Head Brewery
The Boston Beer Company (BBC), an NEC member, has acquired the Delaware-based Dogfish Head Brewery, the largest acquisition the company has ever made. This deal will see the combination of two of the nation’s best-known craft beer pioneers, concluded in a $300 million cash and stock agreement.
Although BBC—brewer of Sam Adams beer—has expanded its offerings beyond beer in recent years with products such as Angry Orchard cider, Twisted Tea, and spiked seltzer, this marks the first significant expansion in the beer market. This deal will give BBC a larger presence in IPAs and sour beers, two of the more popular varieties right now.
Dave Burwick, Chief Executive Officer of BBC, commented, “We feel like now is the time to fortify and grow our beer business. We’re committed to craft beer for the long term.”
The NEC congratulates the Boston Beer Company on this significant acquisition, and for maintaining New England’s leadership in the craft beer industry.
