Stephen J. Silveira Appointed to Commission on the Future of Transportation in the Commonwealth
On January 23, 2018, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker announced the appointment of Stephen J. Silveira, Senior Vice President at NEC member ML Strategies, LLC Chair of the Council’s Transportation Committee, to serve on the Commission on the Future of Transportation in the Commonwealth. The Commission will focus on major areas of concern in Massachusetts including climate and resiliency, transportation electrification, autonomous and connected vehicles, transit and mobility services, land use, and demographic trends.
Silviera has a long history working with planning and transportation issues. He previously served the chair of Commonwealth’s Transportation Finance Commission (TFC), which under his leadership issued two ground breaking reports which influenced transportation planning and financing decisions for the past ten years. His also participated in the Project Selection Advisory Council, which improved upon the process used by MassDOT to select capital projects, and served on Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) as part of its Executive Committee for ten years. Silveira also has experience in the public sector, having worked at Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) for almost nine years prior to joining ML Strategies.
As a member of the commission, Silveira will advise the administration “on the future of transportation in Massachusetts that sensibly accounts for impending disruptions due to changes in technology, climate, demographics and more,” said Governor Baker in announcing the appointment.
