Southern Maine Community College Receives Reaccreditation for Next Decade
Southern Maine Community College (SMCC), an NEC member, has received reaccreditation from the New England Commission of Higher Education for the next 10 years. Following an in-depth three-day visit from the accreditation team, SMCC was found to meet the rigorous standards in areas like administration, academic programs, faculty, students, and facilities.
The New
England Commission of Higher Education—also a Council member—enforces high
standards for academic institutions in New England. To illustrate its
compliance, SMCC produced a 228-page self-study for the accreditors. The
accreditation team spent three days on campus, discussing the school with
faculty, staff, students, administrators, and trustees. This team commended SMCC
for its integrity, transparency, professionalism, collaboration, focus, and
data-informed progress.
Joe Cassidy,
President of SMCC, said, “Everybody at SMCC should be proud of our
reaccreditation. We came through the process with flying colors. The
reaccreditation assures the public that we are a high-quality institution
delivering a high-quality education.”
The New
England Council congratulates SMCC for this achievement, and for continuing to
demonstrate a high academic standard in its mission to transform lives and
communities through education.
