Santander Names CEO of Santander Holdings USA

NEC member Santander is welcoming a new US CEO. The Board of Directors of Santander Holdings USA, Inc. announced on March 2, 2015, that Scott Powel has been named Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Powell assumed his post immediately.

Mr. Powell has had a distinguished career in the financial industry. He was most recently Executive Chairman of National Flood Services Inc. Mr. Powell spent 14 years at Citi in several risk management roles and worked at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. in a variety of roles, including Head of Banking and Consumer Lending Operations, CEO of Consumer Banking and Retail Investments and Chief Risk Officer, Consumer. Román Blanco who was serving as CEO of both Santander Holdings USA and Santander Bank until the announcement, will now continue as the CEO of Santander Bank.

Santander Group Executive Chairman Ana Botín said, “We are delighted to have Scott join our team. His expertise and experience in retail banking, consumer finance and risk management will be a great contribution as we work to improve customer service, enhance our U.S.-wide oversight and embed our banking culture across the U.S.”

The New England Council congratulates both Mr. Powell and Mr. Blanco on their roles and looks forward to working with them.
