New Balance Opens First Airport Store at Boston Logan

NEC member New Balance is planning its first airport retail location for Boston Logan International Airport—operated by fellow NEC member Massport. New Balance, founded in 1906 in Boston, MA, is one of the world’s major sports footwear and apparel manufacturers.

New Balance plans to open its 841-square-foot store in Terminal C of Logan Airport just before the 2019 Christmas holiday. While New Balance has over 200 retail and factory stores, it has never opened a retail location within an airport. The retail space will feature a full product mix of apparel, footwear, and accessories, including location-specific items, such as Boston Marathon themed products. The store will be operated by the hospitality and sports company Delaware North, which is also the owner and operator of TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins and Celtics.

“Apparel is critical to airports,” Mark Wolbert Director of retail for Delaware North Travel said in an interview. “Once we understood they have a pretty strong apparel program, we really got excited about this store. It’s going to represent New Balance, very well, on both the footwear and apparel side.”

The Council congratulates New Balance on this new venture and wishes them success.
