New England Council members New Balance and Google announced that they will be teaming up to launch a new smartwatch. The announcement was made at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where New Balance also announced the launch of its new Digital Sport Division, which will oversee the project.
The watch will be designed specifically for athletes, and will allow them to listen to music and track their runs with GPS technology, without having to be tethered to their phones. It will be New Balance’s first product in the wearable tech market, and will run on Google’s Android operating system. The smartwatch is expected to go on sale in late 2016.
“Digital technology has truly revolutionized, very quickly, this industry and New Balance wants to continue to be a brand on the forefront, arming our athletes with the cutting-edge products that will help them reach peak performance,” said New Balance President and CEO Rob DeMartini.
The New England Council congratulates New Balance and Google on their new product and partnership.
