NEC Member Northeast Utilities Announces Name Change

Beginning on February 2, 2015, NEC member Northeast Utilities and its subsidiaries will be known as Eversource Energy. The goal of the change is to unify the focus and appearance of the organization.

All six subsidiaries of Northeast Utilities will adopt the new name, including Connecticut Light and Power, NSTAR Electric, NSTAR Gas, Public Service Company of New Hampshire, Western Massachusetts Electric Company and Yankee Gas Services. Together with its subsidiaries, Northeast Utilities is the largest energy delivery company in New England. As part of the change, the company’s stock ticker will change from NU to ES.

Tom May, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Northeast Utilities, said in a statement, “Energy is what brings us together, and Eversource reflects the one-company focus we have been driving for the last few years. Consolidating our brand was the obvious next step for us as we continually strive to improve energy delivery and customer service to our 3.6 million electricity and natural gas customers across the region.”

The New England Council looks forward to the soon-to-be Eversource Energy’s continued involvement with the Council.
