NEC Advocates for Hospitals, Expedited Testing, Insurance Relief in CARES Act
In March 2020, as Congress considered a third relief package to address the devastating economic impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic—which was ultimately passed as the CARES Act—the New England Council sent letters to each member of the Congressional delegation highlighting recommendations that would have a beneficial impact on the New England economy.
Included in those recommendations were several energy-related priories. Specifically, the Council called on Congress to provide additional funding for hospitals as well as for community health centers. The letter also urged Congress to provide funding for testing and treatments, and to prioritize and expedite FDA approvals of any treatments or vaccines. Finally, the Council urged Congress to provide health insurance relief for individuals impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
