NEC Advocates for Clean Energy Tax Credits and LIHEAP Funding in CARES Act –

In March 2020, as Congress considered a third relief package to address the devastating economic impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic—which was ultimately passed as the CARES Act—the New England Council sent letters to each member of the Congressional delegation highlighting recommendations that would have a beneficial impact on the New England economy.

Included in those recommendations were several energy-related priories.  Specifically, the Council called on Congress to extend tax credit programs for renewable energy companies, noting that the pandemic had caused delays in many project underway in the region which could prevent them from being completed in time to qualify for the tax credits.  In addition, the Council requested additional funding for the Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to help the many families and individuals in the region who were facing economic hardship as a result of the pandemic.
