Microsoft Releases Latest Product in Evolving Surface Hardware Line

NEC member Microsoft recently released the latest version of its Surface laptop, a product in a line of devices which includes Surface hybrid tablets and massive touchscreen whiteboards. Surface remains the only major hardware line made my Microsoft aside from the Xbox gaming console and the HoloLens augmented reality headset.

Chief Product Officer Panos Panay said that the new Surface hardware models reflect the suggestions of a large number of customers. Even at the unveiling event for the product, Panay spent time roaming through the audience, taking note of how various people, from teachers to reporters, use the laptop. The Surface devices allow Microsoft the opportunity to present its software and hardware in one package, using its own operating system and workplace software on its own hardware.

Wes Miller, an analyst with Directions on Microsoft, says that “[Surface] is a vehicle to provide a best-in-class experience with Windows 10. It’s trying to treat the hardware and software as an experience.”

The NEC congratulates Microsoft on this new release and applauds their commitment to the continued development of products that truly benefit consumers.
