Liberty Mutual to Insure Olympic Medals

NEC member Liberty Mutual Insurance has recently partnered with the United States Olympic Committee as the official property, casualty, and life insurer for Team U.S.A in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and Paralympics, as well as in the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

This new partnership means that Liberty Mutual will cover lost or stolen  gold, silver, and bronze medals won by Team U.S.A. Previously, athletes were required to submit a special request to the U.S. Olympic Committee to have replicas made and would be responsible for the associated costs.. With this new agreement, Liberty Mutual will not only cover the cost associated with a lost or stolen medal but, they will also help athletes navigate the retrieval process. In the 2010 winter and 2012 summer games, Team U.S.A won close to 500 medals.

“Every medal is meaningful to our country and the athlete who earned the right to wear it, and we are proud to support and protect what matters most to people – whether it is a home or automobile, a business and its employees, or a medal won during the Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games,” said Paul G. Alexander, Liberty Mutual Insurance chief communications officer.

The Boston-based company also supports Team Liberty Mutual, whose members include of 13 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes connected by their unique stories of setbacks and comebacks. The New England Council thanks Liberty Mutual Insurance for their support and commitment to Team U.S.A.
