Healthcare Committee Co-Chair Laurel Sweeney of Philips Healthcare with Dr. Howard Koh.

On Friday, April 29, The New England Council was honored to welcome Dr. Howard Koh, the Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), back to Boston for a special breakfast event.  Over 70 New England Council members representing all sectors of the health care industry in New England, were in attendance.  Dr. Koh is a native New Englander who served as the Massachusetts Commissioner of Public Health from 1997-2003.  Dr. Koh briefed members on the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  In particular, he focused on provisions of the new law designed to expand health insurance coverage; provide for quality, affordable, and coordinated medical care; and promote prevention as a means to bring down health care costs.  Members can read a full summary in the Members Only section.

A special thanks the NEC Board Member Tom Kershaw for once again graciously hosting us at the Hampshire House!
