Harvard Pilgrim Branches out to Connecticut

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a NEC member, has recently been approved to begin selling health insurance in Connecticut.

The Insurer is currently the second largest in Massachusetts, and also serves over a million members throughout Maine and New Hampshire. The non-profit health care provider has been seeking to expand their business throughout New England since 2011. Though Harvard Pilgrim Health Care was granted approval by the Connecticut Department of Insurance, the Department it still reviewing the provider’s plans and rates.

“This is an important step in our vision to be New England’s top regional health services organization working closely with employers, individuals, brokers and providers,” Harvard Pilgrim’s chief executive, Eric Schultz—and NEC Board Member– said. “Connecticut is America’s insurance capital, and we are proud to be participants.”

The expansion into Connecticut is expected to begin on July 1, 2014. The New England Council commends Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and thanks them for their continued effort to provide premier health services throughout New England.
