Fitchburg State University Starts Data Science Graduate Certificate Program

Beginning this fall, New England Council member Fitchburg State University will offer a graduate certificate in Data Science. The four-course program will prepare students for “the rapidly changing field of managing, mining, integrating and analyzing big data across a wide array of areas such as medicine, bioinformatics, government, education, marketing, security, financial management, and many other fields.” Open to any student who fulfills prerequisite courses or demonstrates understanding of the required background knowledge, the new program is available to those with or without a bachelors degree in computer science.

The program is geared towards those looking to gain further education while maintaining a full-time job. A flexible time frame allows students to complete the program in two to six years by taking evening and online courses. Students in the program will take Introduction to Data Science; Data Exploration, Analytics and Visualization; Machine Learning for Data Science; and Data Mining and Predictive Analytics. The graduate certificate program will ensure students are ready for big data occupations and will help develop a workforce for the future.
