Fitchburg State taps new President

Fitchburg State University, a New England Council member, announced Richard S. Lapidus has been selected as its new president. Following his unanimous selection by the University Board of Trustees, Lapidus will assume his role on July 1, 2015.

Lapidus comes to Fitchburg State from California Polytechnic University, where he was the dean of the College of Business for five years. He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska and a certificate in management and leadership in education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Previous to his deanship, Lapidus served as a professor, associate dean of administration, and chair of the marketing department of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He will succeed Dr. Robert V. Antonucci, who is retiring, as the University’s 11th president.

“We are thrilled to have attracted such a talented and visionary educator as Dr. Lapidus,” Board of Trustees Chairman Carol T. Vittorioso said in a statement. “He has the leadership skills and experience to bring this already strong institution to the next level. He will be in the vanguard of academic leaders who are assuming new roles in a time of great challenge and opportunity for colleges and universities.”

The New England Council congratulates Lapidus on his new role at Fitchburg State and looks forward to the University’s future accomplishments and continued contributions to the New England region.
