Boston Scientific to Team Up with Mayo Clinic on Med-Tech Accelerator

New England Council member Boston Scientific and the Mayo Clinic have announced a joint project to accelerate the development of new medical technology and minimally invasive treatments. The partnership, titled Motion Medical, will be based near Mayo Clinic’s campus in Rochester, MN, and is expected to open in the fall of 2019.

This project is another step forward in Boston Scientific’s and Mayo Clinic’s nearly decade-long partnership. The innovative medical device company and world class clinic have collaborated on eight patent applications and two first-in-human clinical trials. Mayo’s President and CEO Gianrico Farrugia highlighted the organizations’ shared commitment to accelerating the pace of med-tech discoveries and said the collaboration has great potential to develop game-changing medical advancements. Both organizations have committed millions of dollars to Motion Medical and its contingent projects.

“This collaboration between Mayo Clinic and Boston Scientific builds on our experience working together to support the shared goal of advancing patient-centered innovation,” said Mike Mahoney, Chairman and CEO of Boston Scientific. “This approach combines the unique strengths of our two organizations, and we look forward to working together to solve complex health care challenges.”

The Council congratulates Boston Scientific and Mayo Clinic on this partnership and wishes them continued success.
