Boston Celtics Break Ground on New Balance Sponsored Training Facility
New England Council member the Boston Celtics recently broke ground on a new training facility sponsored by New Balance, also a NEC member.
The practice and training facility at New Balance’s Boston Landing complex in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston is scheduled to open in spring 2018. The facility will be named The Auerbach Center at New Balance World Headquarters after Coach Arnold “Red” Auerbach. The 70,000 square-foot facility will house two full-sized basketball courts, hydrotherapy pools, and nutrition and sports science centers. The partnership between the Boston Celtics and New Balance will also focus on year-round community initiatives including “Celtics Basketball Camps” and the renovation of local basketball courts.
“We are proud to be in partnership with New Balance and honored that they have agreed to carry forth Red’s legacy in the naming of the Auerbach Center at New Balance Headquarters,” said Wyc Grousbeck, co-owner and governor of the Celtics, in a statement. “Red had no peer as an innovator in our sport, and we feel like it is fitting that our partner New Balance will help us continue to be a leading innovator as we pursue Banner 18 and beyond.”
The New England Council congratulates the Boston Celtics and New Balance for breaking ground on the facility and engaging in local youth basketball initiatives. Read more in the Boston Business Journal and ESPN.
