Becker College Leads the Way in Esports Management

Council member Becker College recently unveiled their esports management program, the first of its kind in the US. Esports are multiplayer video games which are played in front of an audience or streamed online.

This new program marks the latest iteration of Becker’s original video game design program, which was such a success that it propelled the small school in Worcester, MA, up the ranks of the Princeton Review list. The program is set to begin next fall, joining many other institutions eager to jump on the fast-growing industry, which is currently valued at $1 billion. Courses within the program include economics, psychology, marketing, accounting, and finance, and Becker now offers scholarships of up to $5,000 per year to varsity esports student-athletes.

Alan Ritacco, the Dean of Becker’s School of Design and Technology, said, “How many people in their lifetime get to do something that’s the first of its kind in the United States? We’re experts at this. This is what we do.”

The NEC applauds Becker’s work at the forefront of the gaming industry, and looks forward to seeing the school’s continued growth.
