Assumption College Introduces Actuary Science Major
NEC Member Assumption College announced in late May that it will be offering a Bachelor of Arts degree program in actuary science. The Board of Trustees approved the major on May 9, 2015.
Actuaries are in high demand in the insurance, financial services, and consulting industries. The US Bureau of Labor and Statistics predicts growth for the career to be “much faster than average” over the next seven years. Students enrolled in the program at Assumption will be required to take courses in both business and mathematics, covering wide-ranging topics including accounting, economics, investment theory, and statistics. Courses will include extensive preparation for the exams students must pass before becoming professional actuaries. The degree program will also include assistance for students applying for summer grants for scholarship and internship purposes.
“Assumption’s new actuarial science major provides our students with yet another path to achieving professional success as they journey through the College’s strong, diverse liberal arts curriculum,” said Assumption College President Dr. Francesco C. Cesareo. “As the demand for actuaries continues to rise, Assumption is proud to prepare students to fill this need and, in doing so, secure lucrative, stable, and personally fulfilling careers.”
The New England Council commends Assumption College for its work ensuring students have pathways to productive and profitable careers.
