Air Force Secretary Visits Pease Air National Guard Base in Portsmouth
On May 2, members of the New Hampshire delegation Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Congresswoman Ann Kuster (D-NH) joined together to welcome Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James to Pease Air National Guard Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Secretary James’s visit consisted of a tour of the base and meetings with the New Hampshire Air National Guard’s 157th Air Refueling Wing servicemen and women. Last year, the entire New Hampshire congressional delegation collectively contributed to efforts that would give the 157th Air Refueling Wing the next generation of KC-46A air refueling tankers. This would make 157th Air Refueling Wing the first Air National Guard unit to be so equipped, pending a successful completion of an environmental impact study of the tanker. Consequently, the Department of Defense is requesting that for fiscal year 2015, $41.9 million be targeted towards the Pease Base for KC-46A-related airfield and building improvements.
“Pease’s selection as the first Air National Guard location for the new tanker is a testament to the 157th Air Refueling Wing’s exceptional performance and Pease’s strategic location. We are proud of the New Hampshire Air National Guard, and we look forward to continuing to work with Secretary James and the Air Force to bring the KC-46A to Pease,” stated Shaheen, Ayotte, and Kuster.
Pease Air National Guard Base and the New Hampshire Air National Guard’s 157th Air Refueling Wing have strongly been advocated for on behalf of the New Hampshire congressional delegation and the New England Council thanks them for their continued efforts.
