NEC Announces Three New Policy Chairs
In recent weeks, new co-chairs have been named for several of The New England Council’s policy committees. The Council’s policy committees and cross-sector working groups bring together Council members with shared priorities and areas of interest to collaborate on both advocacy, programming, and other initiatives. The new co-chairs are:
Tom Crohan, John Hancock, Financial Services Committee Co-Chair – Tom Crohan, Vice President & Counsel, U.S. Law & Government Relations at John Hancock, has been named the co-chair of the Council’s Financial Services Committee. Tom first joined John Hancock in 2010, and over the course of his tenure there has held positions in both corporate responsibility, community investment, and government relations. Prior to joining John Hancock, Tom served on the staff of the late U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA). Tom joins longtime Financial Services Committee co-chair Jim Febeo, Senior Vice President and Head of Federal Government Relations at Fidelity Investments. Andrea Hechavarria, New Hampshire Life Sciences, Healthcare Committee Co-Chair – Andrea Hechavarria, President & CEO of New Hampshire Life Sciences (NHLS), has been named the new co-chair of the Healthcare Committee. Alongside several co-founders, Andrea helped establish NHLS, a statewide life sciences association, in 2013. She previously served in senior government affairs roles at two different life sciences companies, Terumo Blood & Cell Technologies, and Butterfly Technologies, during which time she was active in the NEC Healthcare Committee. Earlier in her career, Andrea worked on Capitol Hill as a Senate staffer for nearly a decade. Andrea joins co-chair Malisa Schuyler, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at Beth Israel Lahey Health. For more information on the NEC Healthcare Committee, please contact Sean Malone.
Chris Melly, AIG, Trade Working Group Chair – Chris Melly, Vice President of Government Affairs at AIG, has been named chair of the Council’s cross-sector Trade Working Group. Chris has been in his current role at AIG, where he focuses on trade and other international matters, since 2018. Chris joined AIG from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), where he worked on free trade agreements, represented the United States at the World Trade Organization, and led the U.S. team in the Trade in Services Agreement negotiations.
