BankESB hosts free community ‘Shred Day’ to protect customers from identity theft
New England Council member, BankESB, hosted a free community shred day in its Amherst Office.
“Shred day” refers to shredding personal information such as credit card statements, tax-related documents, and identity cards in order to guard off possible fraud.
“Fraud is rampant,” said George Michelakis, Branch Manager at Bank ESB, Amherst. “But if you’re cautious about it, you’re careful about it, speak to your bankers, you know, come in and talk to us, and we’ll guide you in ways that you can protect yourself.”
The event was hosted in order to respond to the recent hike in cases of identity and data theft. According to AARP, around 15 million adults had their data stolen in 2023, amounting to around $43 billion.
BankESB warns its customers to play it safe and shred pieces of information that contain names, addresses, phone numbers, and bank information in order to keep your information safe.
The New England Council commends BankESB for this initiative to protect customers from possible fraud.
