Pine Street Inn holds graduation for its workforce training program
New England Council member, Pine Street Inn, held a graduation ceremony on Friday, June 14, for the 75 graduates of the nonprofit’s workforce training program. Many of the graduates had previously spent time in Pine Street’s homeless shelter. The job training focused mainly on hospitality and food service industries and financial literacy training.
The graduates are now leaving the program with a close community of their peers and ready to join the Boston workforce. Governor Maura Healy gave the graduation’s commencement address, saying, “These businesses, these employers, we in Massachusetts, we need you. We need your work, we need your skill, we need your resilience. We need people like you who are committed to learning and growth.”
“They’re all in the same boat. It’s a tough boat to be in, but they really develop the community, and they really support each other,” said Lyndia Downie, Pine Street’s executive director.
The New England Council would like to congratulate the graduates and commend Pine Street Inn on the continuation of this incredible program.
