At UNE, fledgling business school will add three new majors
New England Council member, the University of New England, will introduce three new interdisciplinary majors to the College of Business in the fall. This new business school, established last June, will add degree programs in accounting, finance, and marketing.
The UNE College of Business also offers majors in business administration, marine entrepreneurship, sustainability and business, sports leadership, and management. Last November, the school launched a major in outdoor business and innovation to prepare students to participate in Maine’s $3 billion outdoor recreation industry. Currently, about 200 business majors are enrolled in the College of Business, where the new inaugural dean, Norm O’Reilly, will serve starting on July 1.
The accounting degree will equip students with modern techniques and technologies, the finance program will prepare students for financial management and investments, and the marketing program will be educated to adapt to consumer behaviors. Gwendolyn Mahon, the UNE provost and vice president of academic affairs, said in a statement, “These new academic programs reflect the university’s commitment to meeting evolving industry standards and workforce needs while preparing students for the dynamic challenges and opportunities they will encounter in these fields.”
The New England Council congratulates the University of New England on the expansion of its business education.
