Boston Medical Center launches hospital at home program
On April 3rd, New England Council member, Boston Medical Center, launched its new hospital-at-home program. The program is part of a new initiative introduced in many health systems nationwide to bring inpatient, hospital-level care to patients wherever they live.
The Boston Medical Center Hospital at Home program is currently recruiting its first patients. The hospital-at-home movement is primarily a result of the healthcare industry’s capacity crisis, with these home programs allowing for more free hospital beds and patients to recover in their homes. The program uses technology to monitor patients’ vital signs while receiving in-person and virtual daily visits from clinicians. Hospital at Home is also used to ensure patients have enough food, electricity, and heating.
“Providing hospital-level care in a patient’s home allows us to increase patient access to care options, expand hospital capacity, and provide high-quality care to more of our community without additional strain on our resources,” Dr. Alastair Bell, president and CEO of Boston Medical Center Health System, said in a statement.
The New England Council commends Boston Medical Center for the launch of this vital program.
