Point32Health supports mothers with meal delivery service at Providence Hospital
New England Council member, Point32Health has partnered with Meals on Wheels to provide zero-cost, nutritious meals to Women & Infants Hospital patients.
Since 2022, the program has supported both expectant and postpartum mothers by supplying weekly meals to their homes. Clinical social workers at Women & Infants Hospital screen individual patients to maximize the benefits of the program – with a focus on mothers with prenatal medical risks and income barriers. According to doctors at Women & Infants’ Obstetrics and Gynecological Center, nourishing food is one of the main factors in improving outcomes for mothers. The program, which Point32Health funds, also includes various meal options to accommodate diverse diets and palettes.
“Healthcare providers understand the importance of nutrition for women during pregnancy, and it is critical to find a way to meet families where they are – not only by addressing cost barriers but also hurdles of transportation or even cultural dietary needs,” said Michele Wolfsberg, director of clinical strategy for commercial products at Point32Health. “Our program with Meals on Wheels of RI and Women & Infants has helped to provide thousands of healthy meals to households in Rhode Island to support maternal wellness and healthy baby development.”
The New England Council commends Point32Health for supporting mothers during childbirth.
