Fidelity center paving the way for advanced technology
Fidelity Investments’ Center for Applied Technology (FCAT), just outside of South Station, is seeking to understand and utilize emerging technologies in the evolving world of investments. The New England Council member has been researching and experimenting with burgeoning ideas for over 20 years.
The center, which focuses on theories five to ten years away from practical implementation, offers a wide array of experimental equipment, from interactive financial literacy games for children to a robot that substitutes for a reception desk. Another large component of FCAT’s research is devoted to quantum computing and navigating the potential security risk that it poses, as its computing strength could crack many modern encryptions presently devotes a large degree of its efforts to quantum computing. FCAT aims to harness its potential benefits by developing apps that can utilize quantum technology.
“We want to make sure that the software that we write can be executed on most of the hardware that is available,” said Elton Zhu, the director of quantum research at FCAT, whose work is leading the development of other quantum research facilities throughout the Boston area. “We’re paying close attention to the local ecosystem and we’re very engaged in it,” he said.
The New England Council commends Fidelity for its innovative efforts.
